The survivor grew up in an impoverished Dalit family. Still a teenager, in March 2021, she was lured by her boyfriend Sandeep into leaving home on the pretext that he promised to elope with her.

Sandeep rang the girl and asked her to meet him early the following morning at a bus stand in Mandi Dabwali, in Haryana’s Sirsa district. Believing his false promises of marriage, she followed his instructions. Sandeep picked her up, but instead of being true to his word, he took her to a room where seven of his friends lay in wait.

Over the course of an horrific four days, the group took turns gang raping her multiple times. Eventually, at the end of her ordeal they dropped her outside her home injured and traumatised.

The girl’s family lodged a complaint with the police, who went on to arrest the accused persons. Police authorities have conducted raids to arrest the remaining accused and the investigation remains underway.
